Regarded as one of the most outstanding and diverse flutists of today, Ginka Ortega takes us on a journey from the mastery of the classics to the fascinating spectrum of world music; ranging from her Bulgarian roots to the music of Latin America and the passion of Spanish Flamenco. Called "Faraona de la Flauta Flamenca," Ortega sings Flamenco on the flute, reinventing cante jondo, (flamenco's deep singing) with new mesmerizing possibilities, reaching a new generation of international audiences to experience the power, passion and trance-like spirituality of duende. Born in Preslav, Bulgaria, Gerova Ortega hold degrees in Performance, Graduate and Post Graduate from, Varna State School of Music, Wayne State University, Oberlin Conservatory and the University of Michigan, and has worked with Professors Marcel Moyse, Robert Willoughby, Houenstein, Jean Pierre Rampal. Awarded the title of "Michigan Musical Ambassador" and "Arts Award" by the Governor and the State of Michigan, she is a soloist with "Michigan Touring Arts", "Arts Midwest", and the "International Festivals in Catalunya, Spain."
